Are We On The Verge Of a Water Crisis?
This article continues a conversation started yesterday.… A random email from a friend sparked a concern, and led to asking real questions about supplies of drinking water.
Namely, “ARE we actually in danger of a water shortage?”
Unfortunately, according to current reports, the answer is yes.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Secretary-General Prof. Petteri Taalas says, “We need to wake up to the looming water crisis.”
While Africa has almost always been in the most serious drought situation, as you can see in these images, water shortages in North America and many other areas of the globe are getting to a state of concern.
It’s obvious from these images that the West Coast is most in danger right now, but if you look you can see areas to the East getting there, too. (And somehow worse in Canada?)
The WMO also reports that “only 0.5% of water on Earth is usable and available freshwater” and that drought has increased 29% over the last 20 years.
Now, the good news is that the United Nations and other organizations are working with countries to take necessary steps to help the situation…
But, if a serious drought hit anytime soon, a lot of us would be in trouble.
And according to a video presentation I just watched, it’s not even necessary!
We’re still learning over here, but if you want to check out what we found about a mobile, self-contained system that can deliver an abundance of clean fresh water no matter if you live in the desert or any dry zone…
